About Compare Heat Pumps
Compareheatpumps.co.uk is a UK quote-matching service for heat pumps, cylinders and the heating work around them. You send one enquiry about your property and the job, and independent heat pump businesses who cover the area can contact you with a price.
The work ranges from a single split unit in a garden office to a ground loop for a farmhouse. Our pages explain what each job involves, what drives the cost and what to ask, so the quotes you get back are easier to compare.
What happens to your enquiry
Your request can be matched with up to four heat pump businesses based on the work and the postcode. A business may ask for photos, a floor plan or the make of your current boiler, or it may arrange a survey. A firm ground source installation quote needs a site assessment; a fault on an existing unit may start with a phone call.
Four quotes are not guaranteed. Replies depend on local coverage, the type of work and who is available. The enquiry is free. You can turn down every quote. Ask about any survey or call-out fee before agreeing to a visit.
The heat pump work covered
Air-to-Air Heat Pump Installation
Split and multi-split units that heat and cool rooms directly, with no radiators or cylinder. Pipe runs, outdoor unit position and the number of rooms set the price.
Ground Source Heat Pump Installation
Systems that draw heat from a buried loop or a borehole. The ground, the plot and the size of the house decide how involved the groundwork becomes.
Heat Pump Cylinder Installation
Hot water cylinders with the large coil a heat pump needs, sized for the household, with expansion, discharge and legionella controls set up properly.
Heat Pump Radiator Upgrades
Larger or fan-assisted radiators, and wider pipework where needed, so each room reaches temperature at a heat pump’s lower flow temperature.
Heat Pump System Design and Sizing
Room-by-room heat loss calculations and a written design, so that the unit, emitters and cylinder in a quote match the house.
Heat Pump Fault Diagnosis and Repair
Error codes, iced-up outdoor units, noisy fans, poor heating and hot water faults traced and repaired by someone who knows heat pumps.
What we ask of installers
We ask businesses who join for their insurance details and references. That does not guarantee the work. Check their current insurance, experience and qualifications yourself.
For a grant-backed installation, that means MCS certification for the technology being fitted. Work involving fluorinated refrigerant needs the appropriate individual qualifications and company certification where required, as set out in the F-gas guidance, unvented cylinders need specific training and new circuits need a competent electrician. A business that fits cylinders every week may not repair compressors, so ask who will do each part of the job.
Your contract is with the installer
We do not send our own staff to do heat pump work. Each business gives its own survey, quote and terms, and you decide whether to hire it. The booking, contract, payment and any follow-up are between you and that business.
Keep the written quote with the invoice and any certificates. For a new heat pump, keep the commissioning record, the MCS certificate where one applies, the guarantee registration and the building control or competent person certificate. If something goes wrong later, Citizens Advice consumer guidance explains your rights when a trader’s work is not up to standard.
Homeowners, landlords and tenants
Include the postcode and the name of whoever can sign off the work. Tenants should go through their landlord or letting agent for heating changes. Landlords should check whether the installation affects the property’s energy performance certificate and any tenancy obligations.
Tell the business if the heating has failed and someone at home is vulnerable to the cold. That helps businesses plan, though sending an enquiry does not book a slot or mean anyone will come urgently.
The service behind the website
Compareheatpumps.co.uk is run by Local-Quotes.co.uk, and enquiries are handled through Leads Do Work. Heat pump businesses that want enquiries can sign up at leads.work, or read more on our heat pump job leads page.
Ready to compare quotes?
Use the enquiry form to say what you want and where. You do not need to know the model number; describing the property and the problem is enough to start.
Check funding before ordering
Grant eligibility depends on the property, system and scheme rules. Check the current Boiler Upgrade Scheme guidance for England and Wales, including eligible air-to-air systems, and confirm installer certification and application arrangements before ordering. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different support arrangements.
